<< PILKINGTON BUILDING PRODUCTS UK - Building Materials and Architectural Building Products >>

Pilkington Building Products - UK

Pilkington Building Products - UK manufactures a wide range of float, coated, rolled, laminated and toughened glass products as well as its own range of high performance insulating glass units. Glass is distributed to customers, either as stock or as bespoke processed products to meet their needs, direct from St.Helens or through our network of 23 branches countrywide. The company is highly focused on quality and service, continually improving to deliver the benefits of Pilkington's technical ability and innovation to the end user. The Pilkington glass range offers a wide range of properties from fire-resistance to thermal insulation and sound reduction to safety. We are constantly developing new technologies to take glass even further – one of the latest being self-cleaning glass – and our comprehensive testing regimes not only mean all our products meet the latest regulations but also that you can be sure of Pilkington quality, whatever glass you specify. To help you choose the right glass for your particular project the range is divided by product benefit.

These include:-

• Solar Control • Thermal Insulation • Noise Control • Safety • Security • Decoration • Special Applications

Together with:-

Self-cleaning Glass

Pilkington Activ™, the world’s first self-cleaning glass represents the very latest in glass technology. Effectively the same as conventional glass, it has a specially developed coating on the outside that has an innovative dual action. Once exposed to daylight the coating chemically reacts in two ways. Firstly, it breaks down any ‘organic’ dirt deposits – such as bird droppings and tree sap – and secondly, rain water ‘sheets’ down the glass to wash the loosened dirt away. Available in 4 and 6mm.

Benefits

• Works even on cloudy days and during the night

• Breaks down and loosens even heavy soiling

• The coating will not be worn away or rubbed off, and lasts the lifetime of the glass itself

• Pilkington Activ™ needs only a small amount of UV radiation to activate the coating and remain ‘charged’ – so it works on overcast days and even during the night

• High light transmission

• Range of products available - Pilkington Activ Suncool™, Pilkington Activ™ Blue, Pilkington Activ Stippolyte™, Pilkington Activ Optilam™ Phon, Pilkington Activ Optilam™ Brown

Glass Systems

Pilkington Planar™ the world’s leading structural glass system opens up vast possibilities for architects, allowing them to create a complete glass envelope for buildings with frameless façades on any plane. Support structures, located internally or externally, can use glass mullions, a conventional steel construction or the revolutionary Pilkington Planar™ Tension Structure design, to be as subtle or dominant as appropriate. Pilkington engineers, working with DuPont™ scientists have combined their leading edge technologies to develop the ultimate in strength, safety, durability and appearance in laminated structural glass and are now able to offer – the Planar™ | SentryGlas® Plus System.

Fire Protection

Specifying the right fire-resistant glass is a crucial decision. It’s important to know that the product specified and installed will perform as intended in a fire. Pilkington have been at the forefront of fire-resistant glass innovation since 1896 when we first introduced wired glass. The current Pilkington range of fire-resistant glazings is designed to do exactly that, meeting the UK requirements concerning integrity, and insulation with integrity. Pilkington Pyroshield™ and Pilkington Pyroshield™ Safety (integrity only) a monolithic, wired glass providing integrity fire protection, even in softwood frames, available in clear or texture (for obscuration and privacy) versions. Pilkington Pyrodur™, Pilkington Pyrodur™ Plus (integrity with some insulation)and Pilkington Pyrostop™ (integrity and insulation) comprise multi-laminated layers of float glass and clear intumescent material which produce an opaque shield on exposure to fire which limits the transmission of conductive and radiant heat.

CPD Seminars

Pilkington Building Products – UK currently offer three RIBA Approved CPD Seminars:

Seminar 1 Glass for Fire Resistance (minimum of 6 attendees required)

– Effects of heat on glass

– Integrity and insulation explained

– When to specify fire resistant glass
