Unilit Natural Hydraulic Lime Products
A range of natural hydraulic lime products of mortars, renders, grouts and
decorative finishes that combine the traditional performance characteristics
of porosity, adhesion and flexibility with modern day demands for consistency
in manufacture, versatility and ease of application.
Telling participate in a European distribution network for Unilit natural
hydraulic lime which now extends to twelve countries. Leading knowledge has
been gained by tests and evaluations carried out in the Universities of Lueven
in Belgium and Napier in Scotland. The technical sales team in the UK shares
and has contributed to the expertise developed by the use of the Unilit products
over 20 years across Europe. Unilit hydraulic lime products continue to enjoy
20% annual growth of sales.
Natural hydraulic lime products have the following advantages:
The successful replication of the inherent qualities of historic lime
mortars assures compatibility with all natural mineral and lime mortar
backgrounds
Conservation work may be continuous during winter months with limited
protection required
Mortars will not leech free lime deposits on to the mortar face
Tolerates damp and salts transfer during setting without detriment
to performance
Enables work to be completed more quickly and economically without
specialist skills
Mortars will never become harder than the substrate to which they
are applied
Moisture is extracted naturally and without time limit from masonry
backgrounds
Applications:- Natural hydraulic lime is suitable for use in both restoration
and new build to promote expansion joint free construction due to the mortar
allowing the structure to move as individual elements rather than as a mass.
Unilit hydraulic lime products conform to the European Standard ENV-4951,
NHL 2 3.5 for natural hydraulic lime.
Description:- Unilit hydraulic lime mortars are porous and allow the background
to breathe and stabilise. Lime mortars permit natural movement of the facade
to enable facades to be traditionally created without the requirement for
movement joints. By the selection of the sand grading and the mix proportions
the mortar strength is controlled to ensure compatability with the substrate.
Natural earth pigments are used to produce selected coloured mortars for
use with natural stone and brick as well as for feature rendering in ashlar,
repairs and running cornices. A comprehensive range of mortars has been
formulated to achieve particular requirements. Unilit 20 is a hydraulic lime
blended with perlite to provide a natural insulation mortar that eradicates
condensation and thermal shock. This is of particular application for work
on buildings of architectural or historical importance.
Its light weight makes it ideal for application in thicknesses from 15 -
100 mm on weak substrates. Unilit 30 is suitable for salts containment
applications such as in cellars and against rising damp.
Building or masonry mortars are designed for new build both in brick and
stone. Unilit lime mortars are supplied in variable forms, as a hydrate for
blending with local sands, pre-bagged or pre-blended with limestone sand
of an appropriate grade. Earth ochre mortars are pre-mixed to produce coloured
mortars that are of particular application when used with natural stone and
producing feature rendering in ashlar, cornices and raised bands. Unilit
grouts and mortars are available for stabilisation and consolidation work.
Different formulations match the physical and mechanical properties of the
original construction. Their qualities of vapour permeability, mechanical
resistance and excellent penetration make them particularly suitable. They
may be applied by injection, pressure pointing and gravity flow. Grouts are
available in 0 - 4 mm grades, supplied pre-bagged.
Lime paints and finishes
A comprehensive range of finishes is available in a choice of textures and
colours to maintain the compatibility and porosity of the background. Finishes
include the Corical range of lime paints, Venetian polished plasters, simulated
marble coatings, granular aggregate finishes and roughcasts. Bonding media
ensure perfect adhesion and compatibility for facade upgrading, negating
the necessity to hack back to the substrate.
Hydraulic Lime Floor Screeds Concrete & Bending Layers
Unilit Natural Hydraulic Lime mortars, bedding layers and lime concrete can
be used in new construction, conservation and restoration for general purpose
screeds, wearing screeds, bedding and pointing mortars and re-laying of original
stone flags. Natural hydraulic lime allows the application of slabs and floor
screeds without the requirement for expansion or slip
joints and will also prevent differential movement between the floor screed
and the walls of lime built buildings. Application without a DPM will allow
the floor to "breathe" with moisture from beneath the screed being evacuated
as a vapour. The control of moisture build up below the screed prevents salt
laden vapours from being diverted in to the existing walls.
Where stone, pavingor tiles are then to be laid over the screed the use of
a Unilit bedding mortar will ensure the performance of the screed is maintained
and the compatibility of the mortar with the stone. Application of lime screeds
in conjunction with underfloor heating is becoming popular to achieve improved
stability, an open pore structure and a low coefficient
of thermal expansion. Unilit mortars prevent the build up of moisture within
the floor and remove the risk of thermal bridging and movement. An enhanced
storage of heat is achieved in comparison with cementitious equivalents.
Telling provide an accredited CPD presentation for specifiers who wish to
increase their knowledge in lime mortar technology.
